Ingredients
1 batch
Ingredients
500 g blackberries
1 tbsp lemon juice
200 g jam sugar (with pectin)
Equipment
Blender or hand blender
Method
- Purée the blackberries in a blender or with a hand blender. Optionally, strain the purée to remove the small seeds.
- Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add the blackberries, lemon juice, and sugar.
- Bring to the boil while stirring and allow it to cook for 2 minutes.
- Pour the hot blackberry jam into a sterilised, sealable jar and close the lid. Turn the jar upside down and leave it for a few minutes — this helps it seal airtight.
- Turn the jar the right way up again and store it in a cool, dark place. Once opened, keep the jam in the fridge.

Variations with blackberry jam
This simple blackberry jam is delicious on its own, but you can also create tasty variations. Add small pieces of apple for a thicker, sweeter jam, or replace part of the blackberries with other red berries for a lovely, summery flavour. For a spiced twist, cook with half a vanilla pod or add a pinch of cinnamon. Which version will you try first?
Healthier blackberry jam
Want to make a healthier jam? Replace the sugar with 2–3 tablespoons of honey or agave syrup. Add it while the blackberries are heating. Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed. After removing the jam from the heat, you can stir in 2 tablespoons of chia seeds for extra fibre.
Beekers’ tip: Let the jam sit for at least 15 minutes after making it — this allows the chia seeds to bind properly and gives the jam a lovely texture.
